Biography

Matteo Trevisan is a Research Associate at the CMPF. He holds an MA in Interdisciplinary Research and Studies on Eastern Europe from the University of Bologna, Kaunas and Saint Petersburg (MIREES), and a BA in Political, Social and International Sciences from the University of Bologna.

Matteo has a longstanding experience in media freedom, freedom of expression and pluralism.

He worked with the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (IJAS), where he investigated the decline of media freedom in Serbia in the context of the EU integration process. Afterwards, he worked as one of the editors, researchers and curators of the Resource Centre on Media Freedom run by Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso Transeuropa (OBCT) within the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF).

Following the experience with OBCT, he joined the CEU Centre For Media, Data and Society (CMDS) to work on the Media Influence Matrix (MIM), a project aimed at investigating the effects of rapid shifts in sources of funding and technology on contemporary journalism.

At the CMPF, Matteo Trevisan is currently co-supervisor of the Political Independence area of the Media Pluralism Monitor, co-author of the Italian MPM country report, as well as one of the CMPF’s researchers involved in the project Local Media for Democracy, aimed at supporting local, regional and community media in emerging ‘news deserts’ in Europe.
