Biography

Marie Palmer is a Research Associate at the Centre for Media Pluralism and Freedom (CMPF), at the European University Institute (Florence, Italy). At the CMPF, she coordinates the flagship project of the centre, the Media Pluralism Monitor (MPM) – a research project that documents, monitors and evaluates the health of media ecosystems in the European Union.

She holds a Ph.D in Communication from the University of Technology Sydney, a Master of Public Administration from Sciences-Po Paris and a Master in Journalism practices from l’École de Journalisme de Paris.

Her research interests, among others, include social and geographical inclusivity in media production and in news content.

In parallel of her research activity, Marie trains professional journalists and journalism students. She teaches Media ethics and Communication theory at the University of Technology Sydney (Australia).

She has also trains journalist professional journalists  in Europe and in South-East Asia for the International Federation of Journalists, as part of the Rewriting the Story Project to improve the reporting of women in politics and in public life.

Before dedicating her time to academic research, she worked as a journalist.
