In this study, commissioned by the LIBE Committee of the European Parliament, the CMPF research team undertakes an analysis of the European Media Freedom Act proposal.

The study offers a comprehensive examination of both the political and historical context surrounding EU policies related to media and the broader information society. It also takes into consideration the ongoing debate concerning EU competencies in the realms of media pluralism and media freedom.

The study delves into a thorough assessment of the proposed Act’s legal foundation and subsequently dissects its provisions within each of the Act’s chapters. The analysis is rooted in relevant academic literature, policy documents, and empirical data.

In conclusion, the study puts forth a set of policy recommendations.
