The Media Pluralism Monitor is a sophisticated tool designed to capture risks to media pluralism in a systematic and holistic way, within the four main areas: Basic protection, Market plurality, Political independence and Social inclusiveness. Previous, pilot implementations showed that no EU member state is free from risks to media pluralism. In these challenging times of social, political and technological disruption it is of paramount importance to have cross-country comprehensive monitoring of the media pluralism - an indispensable precondition of a healthy democracy.
